By Anupriya Jamuar
Caught in the famous jello skin trend? We get it, who wouldn’t want their skin to feel bouncy and firm like a baby? So, you’ve stocked up on your hydrating products and supplements and you’re all ready to try this trend that has taken the internet by a storm. Seems about right, but did you know that hydrating your skin is not enough if you’re not protecting it as well?
Aka, wearing SPF every day. The benefits of wearing SPF are plenty and even though it is common knowledge now, do you know why it is such a make-or-break factor to achieve jello skin? We did the digging, so you don’t have to.
Bounce towards healthy skin
Jello skin means your skin is bouncy and beautiful and that bounciness comes from healthy levels of collagen in your skin. If you’ve been paying attention to our sermons on the importance of sunscreen, you’ll remember that the UVA and UVB rays of the sun deplete our skin’s natural collagen. Lower collagen equals lesser elasticity, which can lead to the appearance of fine lines and dullness.
But the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun lead to collagen degradation which means your skin appears wrinkly and lacklustre.
You’ve heard these enough times already but wearing your sunscreen every day is essential for healthy skin. Your future self will thank you.
Pick the right formula for you
You need to factor in a few things before choosing a sunscreen, like your daily sun exposure, the weather, your skin type and your lifestyle preferences. We advise you to wear at least SPF 50 and above, PA ++++ (aka, mother superior of sun protection) a broad-spectrum formula to make sure you’re getting maximum protection. Don’t forget to reapply it every 2 hours if you’re stepping out for long hours to maintain that protection barrier on your skin throughout the day.
