The Unexpected Eye Look To Try For Your Big Day

By Khanak Mehta

With Bollywood brides serving us lots of minimal beauty inspo, and our favourite rom coms continuing to spotlight bold tones of gold and red, it can be tempting to stick to what’s tried and tested this wedding season. But if you’re someone who regularly swaps out their black eyeliner for a colourful one and owns more pop lipsticks than anyone else you know, you might want to consider a more unexpected route for your bridal look. Perhaps a reverse smokey eye?

Trust us, it isn’t as complicated as it sounds. But we could all use a little help sometimes, which is why we have celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni by our side to share her top tips to get it just right

Flip the switch

A reverse smokey eyeliner is pretty much what it sounds like – you simply have to do a smoked-out eyeliner, but on your lower lash line. It’s a subtle yet impactful way to make your eyes stand out, and there’s lots of room to play with different hues.

"It’s a great way to wear colours around your eyes without it looking like there is too much happening, especially if you usually prefer keeping it subtle," explains Namrata. Consider reaching for a green eyeliner or eyeshadow instead of the black this season – not only is it on trend, but also pairs incredibly well with brown eyes.

Figure your base-ics

Keep the focus on the eyes with a demi-matte base. Make sure it stays in place all day – and night – with the pro artist's guide.

“You need to learn how to set your base with powder,” says Namrata. “A loose, colourless translucent powder is a must. Use it with a powder puff, because a brush doesn’t really set your makeup. Pick up a little powder, blend it on the back of your hand, and then apply it on your undereye area, T-zone, and around the mouth – wherever there is a lot of movement when you’re talking. Go over the rest of your skin with whatever is left on the sponge,” she suggests.

Butter ‘em up

Finish the look by gliding on a buttery almond pink or nude lipstick. A creamy, satin finish pairs perfectly with glittery green on the eyes.

Don’t forget to add a touch of colour to the cheeks – choose a salmon pink blush or a brown contour shade if you want to add extra definition. Place it high on your cheekbones for a soft, fresh look,” adds Namrata.
