Why The Classic 3-Step Routine Is Still The Biggest Skincare Trend

Our collective beauty habits have changed over the past few years. Most of us have stripped down our skincare and makeup routines and grown to be more comfortable in our own skin.

This has lead to a trend called skinimalism, which is a move towards streamlining your beauty routine and letting your real skin texture shine through; pores, spots and all.

We asked celebrity makeup artist Anu Kaushik who recommends multi-tasking products with high efficacy–think a tinted sunscreen that does the job of a foundation and SPF in one or a double-duty moisturiser that works for both day and night.

WHY SHOULD YOU TRY IT?
We get it, you want to try the new glitter face mask or the cream that your favourite celebrity swears by. But the truth is, layering too many products can confuse and overwork your skin. With too many actives working against each other, we miss out on seeing the benefits and instead are faced by bouts of acne and irritations. Sticking to a basic cleanse-tone-moisturise routine may help you reach your skin goals faster and prove to be more economical.

HOW DO YOU GET THE LOOK?

Bollywood’s celebrated makeup artist and educator Anu Kaushik says, “Rely on a simple but efficacious skincare routine and a sheer base that evens out your skin tone without masking imperfections.” She suggests this skinimalistic beauty routine:

1. Cleanse your skin with a face wash tailored to your face type

2. Massage your face with a facial oil to boost circulation

3. Prep skin with a vitamin C serum or a hydrating primer

4. Apply a creamy brush on the apples of your cheeks for a flushed glow
5. Use a buffing brush to blend a lightweight foundation into your skin for natural, glass-skin effect
