Body care is often neglected in our pursuit of healthy glowing skin on our face. There is so much you do for your skin but feel lazy to care for the rest of your body. But what if we told you that you could use your face care products for your body too?
To dig deeper we spoke to Dr. Varshini Reddy, Dermatologist and Founder of The Glow Clinic who lets se know that although the skin on our body is different from the skin on our face, there are certain products and ingredients that work in a wholesome manner in both aspects.
Can we use our skincare for our body?
“Face care must extend onto our neck and décolleté always. And face care can always be applied on the body. In certain cases, use products specifically formulated for the body skin as they might have higher strength exfoliants or more emollients which are made for the body,” says Dr Varshini
“But never use body care products on your face they are not meant for that,” she adds
Wondering how your skincare can help your body?
Just like your face, your body too needs moisturisation, exfoliation, and has issues like acne that need to be looked after.
Well, if you were thinking of using your skincare products for your body, we understand it can get expensive on your pockets but you sure can use the same ingredient for your body.
Here are two skincare ingredients that work just as fine for your body.
1. Salicylic Acid
Want to treat unwanted bumps on your back, neck, shoulders, or arms? Being a part of the BHA family, salicylic acid has properties that make it penetrate deep down into the layers of your skin, remove excess oil and help unclog the pores and reduce acne,
“Body acne and in grown hair bumps are very common and a salicylic acid-based body lotion or body wash can immensely help it reduce down,” says Dr Varshini.
2. Glycolic Acid
Exfoliation is key to good skin on the body as there is accumulation of dead skin cells which lead to dry rough and pigmented skin.
“Exfoliating with a lactic acid-based body scrub for irregular texture is advisable. Lactic acid gently buff away dead skin cells, revealing softer and smoother skin underneath, you can use a lactic acid peel that you use for your face on your body” says Dr Varshini.
“Make sure you don’t forget to moisturise your skin after your exfoliate it, apply a moisturising lotion right after shower on damp skin helps to retain moisture and keep the skin supple,” She adds.
