Your Hair Care Routine To Avoid Scalp Build-up

Just like our skin, our scalp also requires regular care to maintain that healthy, glowing hair. But instead, if you’re seeing oily, crusty skin, itchiness, and dull looking hair then it is a sign of scalp build-up. Scalp build-up happens when sebum, along with dead skin cells and hair products form a layer on your scalp, clogging the hair follicles.

 

But to get into the real tea of this, we contacted Clarabelle Saldanha, a celebrity hairstylist with over 40 years of experience to tell us all about scalp build-up and how to avoid it.

 

Easy hair routine to avoid scalp build-up 

“Properly washing and brushing your hair is an easy way to avoid scalp build-up,” explains Clarabelle. “While washing, get your fingers in there and lightly scratch your scalp to remove any build-up. Brush your hair thoroughly afterwards to provide circulation as sometimes lack of blood circulation on the scalp can also make your hair look dull,” elaborates Clarabelle.

 

You also don’t need to wash your hair every day to avoid build-up. Just wash your hair properly when you do and that is sufficient. You can also exfoliate your scalp to remove any build-up.

 

How to avoid build-up for curly hair? 

Brushing your hair properly is an easy way to avoid scalp build-up but if you’re a curly hair girly then we both know brushing sounds like a nightmare. “For very curly hair where you can’t properly brush your hair due to its texture, try massaging your scalp instead. Also, get your fingers in there and lightly scratch your scalp while washing your hair,” advises Clarabelle.

 

What about hair supplements? 

“You can use a multivitamin on scalp after washing your hair and take a biotin supplement a day,” suggests Clarabelle. But before you start on any supplements, do consult your dermatologist beforehand.
