There was a time when curing a pimple overnight seemed like an unrealistic dream (remember those days of frantically dabbing toothpaste on zits?). But now, acne stickers and pimple patches are promising to turn that dream into a reality.
A large part of their appeal lies in the fact that they work fast and well on superficial acne. So these patches are an effective go-to solution for SOS situations where you need to cover a bump fast. But even though pimple patches are convenient, are they enough for solving your acne problems?
How does a pimple patch work?
These patches are made of hydrocolloid; a dressing that absorbs the moisture/pus filled inside acne and flattens it. It is often formulated with ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide (aka your favourite acne-fighting ingredients), alongside actives like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid that help calm your angry skin.
These round, transparent stickers are available in different sizes so that you can apply them directly on your zit. They also protect the area from irritants like pollution, harmful UV rays and your own pimple-picking habit.
All these factors contribute towards healing your skin faster. Hence, the size of your zit flattens overnight.
What pimple patches can’t do for you
There is no doubt that these patches are convenient if you need to heal a zit quickly—but they don’t solve the root of the problem. We believe that prevention is better than cure and pimple patches don’t prevent acne, they cure them. Therefore, these patches shouldn’t be used as an alternative for acne treatments.
The best way to avoid hyperpigmentation and scarring is to reduce your acne. Thus, even though these patches are helpful when used occasionally, your skin might require more care.
When to use a pimple patch?
Pimple patches are useful when you need to cover an annoying pimple overnight. You can also wear one under your makeup. Use thin, translucent acne stickers as they look better under makeup. Also, we recommend you avoid over-layering foundation to cover up the patch as it’ll only make it more noticeable.
And finally, if you’re looking to treat your acne then it is advisable to use products with ingredients like antioxidants, exfoliators, and brightening agents. #AcnePositivity
