The winters are all about layering. From warm tops to sweaters and coats, your body can’t deal with the dropping temperatures unless it’s protected. Interestingly enough, the same goes for your skin, too.
Our skin needs extra hydration in the colder months. While you may be religiously using hyaluronic acid and pairing it with your favourite ceramide-infused products, that may not be enough. This is where layering comes in. When you layer your skincare products the right way, you can get the most out of them – and that’s exactly what a ‘moisture sandwich’ is all about.
Yummy hydration
It’s no surprise that this trend stems from Korean skincare practices – after all, that’s where the best kept tips and tricks for glass and jello skin have come from! To put it simply, it’s all about layering your skincare products the right way to deliver lots of hydration, the same way you layer all your ingredients to make the yummiest sandwich ever.
Lock it in
Start building your moisture sandwich by first leaving your skin *just* a little damp after cleansing it. The idea is to help the following skincare products sink in more easily, and lock in the hydration to help prevent trans epidermal water loss, too. Next, apply your toner or serum and follow it up with a rich cream or occlusive balm. For maximum benefits, make sure you use hydrating ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides.
Hydration rules
Remember, the idea behind creating a moisture sandwich is to trap water in the skin for longer. So, keep in mind the golden rule of skincare – always layer your products from lightest to heaviest in texture so that all your formulas can penetrate the skin and get absorbed easily.
Oh, and if your skin is feeling super parched lately, go ahead and spritz on a hydrating face mist in between your skincare steps for extra moisture. The more hydration, the better!
