The Celeb-Approved Diwali Makeup Look To Try Now

By Khanak Mehta

From the silver screen to our phone screens, Bollywood stars have been favouring the sultry kajal and nude lips pairing. Truly one of the most versatile combinations, this look is all about heavy kohl, moody shadow and several coats of mascara paired with creamy lips. Perfect for Diwali or just about any celebration, this is one look that needs to be a part of your makeup arsenal.

To help you get it just right, we asked celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni to recreate the look for Tata CLiQ Palette and share her best tips. After all, who better than the makeup artist to the stars herself to help you ace this look?

Total smokeshow

Your trusty kajal can do more than just line and define – just ask Namrata: “To get that smokey, diffused look, I start by applying the kajal above the top lash line and below the bottom lash line. Then, I smudge it with a pencil brush – the trick is to use a long-stay formula that doesn’t dry very quickly,” she says. “Be sure to allow it to dry before you open your eyes so that it doesn’t smudge or transfer. If you’ve got watery eyes and you want your look to last, set it with a little bit of matte black or dark brown eyeshadow. This adds lots of smokiness and helps the look stay put till the night.”

Nude mood

Nude lips are a fail-safe pairing for any dramatic eye look and are super easy to maintain throughout the festivities, too. Choose a caramel or brown-toned nude if you have a deeper skin tone, or a pink-toned one if you have a light to medium skin tone. Apply a satin-matte lipstick, along with a touch of highlighter on your cheekbones to keep your look light and fresh, especially during the day.

Knotted up

Loose, open waves might be your go-to hairstyle, but the trends this season dictate otherwise. “Keep away from tied up or very snatched hair styles like the clean girl bun. Instead, do a soft, messy topknot or loose bun on the side to keep it a little bit more playful. Remember, the messier and softer your hair is, the younger you will end up looking,” explains Namrata.

Keep your style in place and avoid any unwanted flyaways with a light spritz of hairspray all over. Set your baby hair with a matte pomade and keep a transparent mascara handy for any quick fixes.
