The Beauty Rituals I Said ‘I Do’ To For My Wedding

The habits to have & to hold forever for healthy skin and hair

As a beauty editor, I’ve spent years immersed in the world of different products, treatments and trends. Armed with so much information, it has been harder to craft my own bridal beauty routine, which is an entirely different, personal journey. Like every bride-to-be, I want to look radiant and feel like the most confident version of myself.

The whirlwinds of planning, outfits, endless excel sheets and emotions don’t stop. But as I get closer to the day, my simple and easy-to-follow beauty routine has become a little sanctuary of self-care. And yes, I’m hitting my goals.

Getting That Glow
Good makeup starts with good skin and any skincare regimen takes time to show results. It’s essential to begin at least four months before your functions begin; earlier if you want to improve deep-rooted concerns like acne or pigmentation.

I follow three gentle steps for oily skin to avoid overwhelming it with new ingredients that may cause breakouts, burns or irritation. I cleanse with an AHA/BHA-based cleanser to remove dead skin cells, moisturise with a hyaluronic acid gel cream and slather on sunscreen with SPF 50 every day. Skin tightness is my major concern, so I visit my dermatologist every twenty days for an in-clinic microcurrent treatment and use a gua sha at home to improve the effects.

Taming The Mane

I’m guilty of regular blow-dries and colour experiments since I was 16. Naturally, the high temperatures and chemicals have opened my hair cuticle, causing it to lose moisture and elasticity over time. This equals more frizz. In-salon treatments like straightening, keratin or hair botox might be able to tackle this, but they also make it almost impossible to hold waves or curls while styling. Discussing my hairstyles in advance with my HMU artist has helped me steer clear of these treatments. Instead, I’ve switched up my conditioner for a heavier, nourishing hair mask every week. I also schedule regular trims to remove dry split ends every 2 months and an in-salon hair spa once a month for deeper conditioning.

Making Scented Memories
Fragrances can play an evocative role in our memories––and using it to mark a special moment in your life can transport you back with a single spritz. You will remember this fragrance for a lifetime, so it is important to find something symbolic and true to the notes you love. Also consider the timing of your event, the venue and weather conditions; heavier notes like oud, wood and spice can become overpowering in humid, outdoor environments.

I tend to gravitate towards florals, so my daytime, winter wedding will be the perfect setting for a romantic scent like Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede. The peony is also a historic symbol of prosperity, luck, and love in many cultures, making it the perfect pick for a new beginning.

Touching Up On The Big Day

Touch-ups are a major part of making sure you look photo-ready through your events. A neutral lipstick, lip gloss, compact powder, cream blush and highlighter go a long way in refreshing your look, even if you have just five minutes.
