Monochrome makeup has been a staple this year, thanks to the ‘clean girl’ trend that has got everyone swapping contouring for a pared down look. While the festive season calls for a glamorous approach to makeup, our favourite Bollywood stars and beauty 'It’ girls continue to favour the effortless monochrome trend for every celebration.
Featuring a single hue on your eyes, lips, and cheeks that enhances your features, this fuss-free yet impactful look has the potential to become your go-to for the festivities. To get you inspired, we asked celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni to create a glam monochrome look that will be perfect for this season. Keep reading to know how you can ace it, step by step.
Pick your purple
We’re calling it now – hues of pink and lavender will be taking over your daytime festive glam looks. “Purple looks great on Indian skin tones, but you must remember to cover any discolouration or dark circles beforehand as the colour can enhance them,” suggests Namrata. “You can wear this shade as an eyeliner, just on the outer socket of your eye, or create a three-toned look with different hues going from lightest to darkest. Don’t forget to wear some cluster lashes on the outer corners of your eyes to lift and enhance them.”
The best pairing – other than you and kheer kadam – is pastel tones on your eyes and dewy skin. We know that the most obvious makeup move for the festive season is to reach out for your trusty full-coverage foundation, but that doesn’t always have to have a matte finish. Let your natural glow shine through by using a hyaluronic acid or vitamin C-based sheet mask beforehand. Swap out your powder products for cream ones like contour and highlighting sticks.
Finishing touches
Complete your look by tapping on the same shade of purple on your cheeks and lips. “You can pair the eye look with a soft purple-pink blush and a purple lipstick – wear it sheer like a stain over your lips if you prefer a more natural look. Remember to choose soft purples with pink undertones, as they always look great on warm skin tones,” says Namrata.
Top off your lips with a translucent pink or purple lip gloss if you’re taking your look from day to night, and don’t forget to use a hairspray to keep your hair in place all throughout the festivities.
