How To Ace The Blurred Makeup Trend

By Khanak Mehta

This Durga Puja, are you ready to paint the town red?

Make your mark on the last day of the festivities with bold hues of crimson and apricot. Vivid shades like these don’t always have to be sharp and focused – in fact, you can make them more wearable by diffusing the edges for a softer look. If you’re wondering how you can ace this gen-Z approved blurred makeup trend, we’ve got makeup artist Namrata Soni by our side to help you out.

Keep reading to know her best-kept secrets to get this technique just right.

Base basics

It can be tempting to swap your full coverage foundation for a skin tint to keep your look fresh and dewy, but the real makeup MVP might just be another unexpected product here. “If you have discolouration or pigmentation, but don’t like to wear too much makeup, find a concealer that works for you and only apply it on the areas that need coverage. Blend it in with a sponge and set it with a little bit of powder. So, when you apply colours to your face, they will look fresh and bright instead of patchy and uneven,” explains Namrata.

Blurred lines

With a slightly diffused look like this one, the idea is to keep everything soft. Think of smokey brown eyeliner, balmy apricot blush, and a red lip that’s not quite so red. Remember to always gently tap on the product, blot away excess, and blur out the edges. For this, it’s best to always have a few matte brown and black eyeshadows in your kit along with an almond brown lip pencil. In fact, you can even use the lip pencil as an eyeliner,” says Namrata.

Mane matters

With a look like this, it’s best to pull your hair away from the face to avoid drawing attention away from it. But the combination of heat, humidity, and sweat can easily take you a few steps further from the ultra-slick bun of your dreams. “Make sure to use a few bobby pins to keep your updo intact. Style and tighten your bun really well so that it lasts you through the entire night. And more than anything, an anti-humidity spray should be a must-have in your kit for this weather,” suggests Namrata.
