Pro Talk | Coloured Hair Care

Dying your hair a fresh—and probably super bright—colour is the hairstyling equivalent of going for the big chop. You’ll walk out of the salon feeling like a brand-new person and will be looking forward to basking in compliments for the next few days, until it’s time to step in the shower and start dealing with running colour and damaged hair. Sounds like a nightmare? It doesn’t have to be one! "It’s true—colouring your hair can completely damage it if not done correctly," explains celebrity hairstylist Priyanka Borkar. So, choose your hairdresser wisely and do your research. It’s also a good idea to incorporate protective and reparative treatments into your care routine, like hair spas and leave-in conditioners. And finally, play it smart! "I used to space out my hair washes a bit more when I would colour it brightly, to make it last. And when I shampooed it, I would concentrate mainly on my scalp to cleanse it and avoid letting the product go down to my strands," admits Borkar.
