The 90s were a pretty ‘sweet’ time for beauty, in more ways than one. While chocolate brown lipsticks took over our beauty shelves, vanilla scents found a permanent spot in our fragrance wardrobes. It was the decade for everything vanilla - from candles to cakes to scents.  

Case in point: Sweet, playful, and nostalgic vanilla is about to make a major comeback. These compositions will come without any extra frills and feature this oriental note front and centre - think of it as a nod to more uncomplicated times, with a scent profile that immediately evokes feelings of comfort and cosiness.  

Want to make it your own? “A good way to create your own signature scent is by layering two fragrances together. In fact, this is something I personally do, too,” says Philippine Courtiere, Senior Perfumer at Symrise. 

Pair your vanilla scent with a floral one for a date, or with a woody composition for a night out on the town. If you want to add a touch of freshness, layer it with scents that feature bergamot or lime to tone down the sweetness.
